This course is a classroom based and instructor led with the practical demonstrations. Where possible, demonstrations will involve a workplace setting and/or replication of typical work activities.
Assessment:
Multiple Choice Questions Exam & practical demonstration of correct lifting techniques
Accreditation/Certification:
The successful participants will be awarded with Amber Safety Certificate of Completion valid for 3 years.

Course Objectives

On the completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • List procedures for chemical spill emergencies
  • Use of spill control equipment competently
  • Describe how to dispose of chemicals safely following clean-up
  • Follow precise decontamination procedures

  • Review of chemical classifications and hazard labelling
  • Routes of entry of chemicals and health risk posed by chemicals in the workplace
  • Material Safety Data Sheets with focus on hazard identification, handling and storage, exposure controls, first aid and accidental release measures)
  • Spill activation procedures and response priorities
  • Review of PPE and clean-up materials
  • Storage and segregation of different chemical categories
  • Spill clean-up and waste disposal procedures e.g. acids and solvents
  • Measures to prevent chemical accident /spillage
  • Decontamination procedures
